Lieder der Elisabeth are four songs arranged for mezzo-soprano, viola and piano and are taken from Linjama's church opera Die Geburt des Täufers. Lyrical and touching, the cycle begins with the tranquil Herbst, a pointilistic painting of autumn. Klage der Elisabeth is declamatory and rhytmically active second movement. Third song Hohes Lied (Song of Songs), a quirky love song for Zacharias. The cycle ends with repetative Alleluia passage, which fades out and up in the heavens.
