Queen Alexandra's Memorial Ode, for chorus & orchestra, Words by John Masefield set to music by Edward Elgar & orchestrated by Anthony Payne. So Many True Princesses Who Have Gone was composed in 1932 to mark the dedication of Alfred Gilbert's new statue of Queen Alexandra (1844-1925), Queen Consort to King Edward VII. The performance took place on 8 June 1932 at Marlborough House, London, in Elgar's original scoring for chorus & military band.
