Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Symphonies Nos 40 and 41. Mozart composed his last three symphonies in the summer of 1788, in apparent anticipation of an unrealised subscription concert series. Symphony No 40 opens with a hint of tragedy, tempered by the beauty of the slow movement that follows, while the final Jupiter Symphony ends the great series of symphonies in gloroius triumph.
