Festival Overture was commissioned by the Iowa Association of School Music Dealers and was premiered at the annual Iowa Bandmasters Convention in May, 1989 by the Iowa Bandmasters Middle School Honor Band. An exploding introduction, contemporary harmony with a touch of Latin syncopation and a quiet, contemplative middle movement combine to create a very effective concert selection. A powerful DC al coda brings the work to a dynamic closing. (Grade 2)
