John Coprario or Coperario is thought to have been born in about 1575, his original surname being Cooper, and he seems to have visited Italy during the early years of the 17th Century. Coprario's Funeral Teares (1606) and Songs of Mourning (1613) form a sharp contrast with our current notions of the style of the English Ayre, which are generally based on the music of such men as Dowland, Campion, Ford or Rosseter. his masque songs (1614) are somewhat more conventional.
