Timothy Bowers, The 'Winter Journey' of the title is the Journey of the Magi. The work is based on the plainchant Hostis Herodes. The chant is stated in the Prelude. The five short arrangements that follow illustrate the five verses of the text. The plainsong melody is woven into the texture of each movement.
