One of the best ways to prepare for upcoming theory exams is to have a go at some of the old ones, and to that end, the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) have been releasing their Theory of Music exams papers for each year, once that year has ended.
As such, 2011’s Theory of Music exams papers are now out, and available to order here, or by clicking on the image below.

Just in case you were worried, the ABRSM also provide a set of “Model Answers” for each grade, meaning you can get an idea of what’s expected for each grade, and how to improve your answers. They’re also invaluble for teachers!
If that wasn’t enough, you can brush up on your theory with the Music Theory In Practice workbooks and the AB Guide to Music Theory.

Well, it’s all over for another year, as The xx’s debut album, cunningly titled xx, won the Barclaycard Mercury Prize earlier this week.
Sadly, there’s no book available for this album (at least not yet), but we do have books for two of this year’s nominated albums, Corinne Bailey Rae’s The Sea and Mumford & Sons’ Sigh No More.
We’ve also got past albums and collections from nominee Paul Weller, and previous nominees and winners including Elbow, Radiohead, Keane, KT Tunstall, Kasabian, Coldplay and Amy Winehouse.
Take a look at the full selection here. We’ll be adding new titles, such as xx, if or when they’re published.
(Oh, by the way, the Kit Downes Trio were robbed…)
